Nashville Newborn Baby Photographer | Landon

There are days when the honor of being a photographer is elevated to a whole new level.

Landon was just 12 days old when I met him for the first time. Just a few weeks before he was born, the unbelievable happened: his daddy passed away while serving his country in Afghanistan. It breaks my heart to think that Landon will never have the opportunity to meet his daddy, this side of heaven, but I am so thankful for men like him who willingly risk their lives for our safety.

It was truly a joy to capture this sweet baby’s first photographs.

Update (10/2011) – When I first published some of the images from Landon’s session on my blog, I left out the photograph below. I felt it was extremely personal and I wanted to honor their family’s privacy. I am honored that Landon’s mother has generously chosen to share it publicly through numerous interviews and blog posts. Neither of us ever imagined that so many people would be touched by his story. We have received so many emails, comments and phone calls from men and women all over the country. Thank you for your love and support of this sweet family!!

These are amazing.
Bless you Momma & babay Landon. As a military wife my heart aches for you but I pray that God lift you up & you both will always know how much you are loved.

Matt - September 29, 2011 - 6:16 am

I saw a picture you took of Landon on Facebook laying on his Fathers jacket surrounded by his personal effects. Being the father of a 12 month old myself I have to tell you that this has to be one of the best photos I have ever seen. The way the picture has impacted everyone I have shown it to and myself is amazing.

I just wanted to let you know you did an amazing job and was wondering if there was any way to help Landon and his family further?

Phil Tittle - September 29, 2011 - 6:36 am

I am so sorry Crissie that your family had to suffer this loss and that Landon will never see his father on this earth, but as he grows let him know how very much we are thankful for men like his father that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Landon is a precious baby and my prayers go out to you and Landon.
Marcia, WONDERFUL, WONDEFUL, pictures you have captured, heart-wrenching, yet heartwarming at the same time. God bless your work!!

Brittany - September 29, 2011 - 9:42 am

Like some of the others, I found this picture posted on facebook. I don’t usually connect emotionally to pictures, but this brought tears to my eyes. My heart absolutely breaks for Landon and his mother.

His daddy is an amazing hero.

Sharon - September 29, 2011 - 9:43 am

Landon, your Daddy is a true hero! God Bless you Mommy and Landon!

Danielle - September 29, 2011 - 5:41 pm

I saw this photo on facebook and tracked it to this blog through your logo. I am a new mom myself and cannot imagine how hard this is on Landon’s mommy. I pray for her to have strength and faith in god during this time. I pray that Landon will be able to grow up in a country that he will be proud to say his daddy died fighting for. This is such a beautiful photo. God Bless this family

Rachel Tramontana - September 29, 2011 - 7:38 pm

These pictures are incredible. So unbelivably sad…yet you captured how proud and how strong this military Momma is. You must have felt so rewarded to have been able to capture such a special, intimate and inspiring moment. BEAUTIFUL.

Thank you to his Mommy for everything you have had to endure as a mom knowing her husband and father of her unborn baby were off fighting to protect all of our freedoms. Amazing.

Robin - September 29, 2011 - 8:23 pm

I seen one of these pictures on Facebook as well. May God watch over this beautiful family. Thank you to the HEROS that serve this Country so we can have our freedom. Words can’t express the way that this picture made me feel.Fantastic photography!!

Lindsey - October 1, 2011 - 12:03 pm

Today, 6 months after you posted this, I came across the last picture being shared by complete strangers on facebook and was determined to find it on your blog. I am 8 months pregnant and cannot stop the tears. God bless this woman. My heart aches for her and her son and I cannot thank her enough for the sacrifice her husband made, but also for the sacrifice she made. She is an inspiration. This photograph is truly incredible- thank you.

Jenni - October 7, 2011 - 3:38 pm

The picture of Landon with his father’s uniform brought me to tears this morning. I wish nothing but the best to Crissie and Landon. I want to thank all the men and women who serve in the military and their families.

Alyse - October 21, 2011 - 11:45 pm

Thank you to the mother and family of this beautiful baby boy. May he know his father made the ultimate sacrifice for him and the country he lives in and is one of our true Heros. Prayers for your family and all military families who give us our freedom.

James - December 29, 2011 - 5:08 pm

I am curious, are you selling any of this beautiful babies pictures to raise funds for this family. The father has made the ultimate sacrifice and if there is anything I can do to ease the burden for this mom and baby I would be happy to do my share.

Bob Pace - January 21, 2012 - 1:57 pm

I stumbled across the picture of Landon on Facebook but eventually tracked it back to your blog. I spent some time looking at your blog also. You are truly gifted and the picture you gave Landon’s Mom is a true gift to her and it will be to him later. You also moved so many of us around the nation. Thank you. I work in the Pentagon and live in DC. My wife is waiting for me in Arlington and I see the cost of the war every week when I visit her. Your picture helps make the cost less abstract to many, but at the same time shows that Andrew lives on in Landon and Crissie. Thank you and Crissie for sharing your gift with the rest of us. If my children ever decide to give me grandchildren I might be making the trek to Nashville to see you. God bless you. Bob Pace

Janet - January 24, 2012 - 7:43 pm

Nearly a year later…and STILL such an impact! Thank you so much for this lovely picture and story of Chrissie and Landon! As a military retiree, I was especially touched by the amazing tribute to Andrew’s family! May God bless this family richly throughout the coming years! Janet

Mario - January 27, 2012 - 9:38 am

God bless our soldiers and their family

Suzy - January 27, 2012 - 3:55 pm

What a beautiful picture and such a sweet tribute to this brave family! May God continue to bless them all!

Donald Sorrels - January 28, 2012 - 11:03 am

As a retiree my heart goes out to the ones who gave all and especially their families. But you should know that as a Marine’s child they have a family that is world wide and will always be there for them. Marines have always took care of their own and never forget our fallen or their families.Landon can only be proud of his father and may he be a blessing to the family that through him his father continues on. To the photographer: I thank you from the bottom of my heart of this extremely stellar portrait of this beautiful baby boy, Landon lying on his beloved father’s uniform. Thank you for sharing this precious photo to the world.
To Landon’s father: Thank you for you who in giving your part to bring this beautiful baby into the world; thank you for your contribution of serving in the armed forces knowing that you lay down your life for what you believe.
I salute you and all of the armed forces who have transitioned and those who have survived.
To Landon’s mother: Dear mother you have also contributed to this beautiful baby boy, Landon, birthing Landon. I pray that you will strive for strength, hope, faith, stay strong as you pour your love into Landon raising him, and one day when he is old enough this precious portrait will be kept as an air-loom for generations to come for his children and his children’s children.
When I first saw this lovely, touching, beautiful, portrait on the news, part of my breathe was taken away; immediately, I had tears in my eyes. I had to search on google hoping to find this portrait because it was heavy on my mind.
I copied the portrait for my own personal collection and frame it with the rest of my family photos, PROUDLY.

mark De pena - December 17, 2012 - 7:20 am

dear inara studios,
my name is Mark de pena fom sydney Australia….for the last 3 years I have been going to facebook…and have enjoyed the shared photos that many photographers share on there of their beautiful work. I have discovered I like to write poetry, especially poems that have been inspired by the many photos posted on facebook.
I was so moved by the shot of Landon laying on his daddy’s army shirt next to his daddy’s picture that i wrote a poem about it..and it really bears more significance now I know the story behind the beautiful photo. I would dearly love to use the photo in a bok of poems i am making with my poem tactfully inlayed into the photo. It is to be called poems from the heart and will be my first attempt at publishing a book of my poems.
I am merely asking permission to use this beautiful photo in my book where i will be giving full ascknowledgement of the author/photographer of each shot that I use.
so I am just giving you the curtesy of seeking permission..i would be honoured and deeply gratified to use and promote your beautiful work through this shot
yours faithfully Mark (dip)
